The camera-free model arrives against a backdrop of regulatory pressure on Meta's existing smart glasses, which have faced scrutiny and outright bans in markets including India. The third-generation Ray-Ban Meta glasses keep the same privacy controls as their predecessors, which critics argue is insufficient given the concerns that triggered those bans. The audio-only model removes video recording but retains microphone capability, a distinction that sits at the center of the current debate.

The Pro-AI camp frames the Ray-Ban Audio as a practical, accessible device.
