Nick Jones described Charm as a surveillance device dressed up in cute packaging. A thread from 404 Media, citing internal reporting, claims Meta is currently using human call center workers to handle some requests rather than fully automated AI, raising questions about whether the product's capabilities are being overstated. A Wired piece quoted researcher Jathan Sadowski framing Charm as an always-open portal into a major surveillance company's servers. The Middle Ground camp has not weighed in publicly yet; a typical response from that position would likely acknowledge the productivity benefits while calling for clearer data disclosure and opt-out controls before widespread adoption.

The immediate questions to watch are whether Meta announces a price and release timeline for Charm, whether the call-center labor reports prompt a formal response from the company, and how OpenAI's competing assistant takes shape in the weeks ahead.
